Probably one of the questions our team get asked the most is do you need planning permission for a garden room?
The answer to that isn’t quite as straight forward as you imagine, but don’t worry, our team of experts will help guide you every step of the way.
The government created a series of rules and regulations regarding outbuildings such as sheds, playhouses, greenhouses, garages, and garden rooms.
We always recommend you check with your local council as to what their regulations and requirements are, but generally the following rule applies:
If the garden room is used for a purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the house, it is more often than not considered to be permitted development (subject to regulations).
This requires no planning permission as long as your house has permitted development rights and is not in a conservation area.
However, if your house is in a conservation area, permission may need to be sought, and for certain uses of a garden room or outbuilding, it may be subject to certain Building Regulations.
It is important that any structure being built is to the highest of standards, and you can be assured of this with Haon Garden Rooms.
